Welcome to the Middle School Traveling Group's Blog from St. Mary's Academy

We are meeting regularly, reflecting on the challenges and adventures ahead of us and building team. Each of us is keeping a journal that we inaugurated in January. Our journal entries began with what it is we hope to accomplish on the trip individually and as a group. We followed that with an entry on our fears which included the long plane ride, eating new foods, getting sick, not knowing how to communicate.... For one of the last two journal entries, we considered what it means to be principled and how that contributes to and influences our development as leaders. And for the other entry, we responded to the following quote:

"One cannot expect positive results from an educational or political action program (SMA’s Peru adventure) which fails to respect the particular view of the world held by the people (Ollantaytambo community). Such a program constitutes cultural invasion, good intentions notwithstanding." —Paolo Freire, Pedagogy of the Oppressed

Most of our time together has been dedicated to activities that are team-building in nature.
